Student found dead at Thiruvalla convent had drowned, says probe report


A 21-year-old Divya P. Johnny, studying to become a nun, was found dead in a well at her convent in Thiruvalla, according to the police on Thursday.

Thiruvalla: Preliminary investigation report revealed that the student who was studying to become a nun at Beselian convent in Thiruvalla had drowned.

Post-mortem of the girl was conducted under two forensic surgeons at Kottayam medical college. It is reported that no suspicious element was found in her body.

Nothing unusual was found during the preliminary examination of the body. Post-mortem report revealed that there was no sign of struggle or bruises on the student’s body.

A minor injury was spotted on her leg. It is assumed that she sustained the injury while falling into the well.

At the same time, the Women’s Commission has sought an explanation from Pathanamthitta SP after the girl was found dead inside the well at the convent. Women’s Commission member Shahida Kamal demanded to clear the mystery behind the girl’s death.

On hearing a thud and splash sound around 12 noon, a few inmates looked into the well in the compound of the Beselian Convent at Thiruvalla, around 120 km from the state capital. The convent authorities immediately informed the Fire and Rescue Service Department and police.

In about 20 minutes, Divya was taken out of the well and shifted to a private hospital by the police. She was declared dead on arrival.
