Thenhipalam: A student drowned in a pool at the Calicut University campus in the wee hours of Monday. The deceased has been identified as Shehan, a second-semester MA Development Studies student and a native of Malappuram’s Edavanna.
Meanwhile, the mishap has been attributed to out-of-hand celebrations of Argentina’s victory in the World Cup Final on Sunday night. Many students reportedly jumped over the compound wall and reached the pool.
According to reports, Shehan drowned in the pool following the celebrations at the campus. Though he was taken out of the pool, there were some hindrances in rushing him to the hospital. By the time, his friends took him to Kozhikode medical college, he breathed his last.
Meanwhile, police have initiated a probe into the incident.
