Thiruvananthapuram: The government may increase the minimum charge for private bus travel to Rs 10. The strike declared by the bus operators was postponed based on the assurance of transport minister Antony Raju that their concerns will be addressed within 10 days.

The bus owners demanded an increase in the minimum fare to Rs 12 and the minimum charge for students to Rs 6.

When the bus fare was hiked last time, one litre diesel costs Rs 62. Currently, the fuel price is at Rs 95. Besides, the sector faced a huge loss during the Covid-19 pandemic. They also want concession in taxes.

The government will decide on the matter before November 18.
