Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the two-day nationwide strike turned violent in certain places due to provocation by some sections of the society. He pointed out that people should exert caution and avoid such situations.

He said that protests turned violent in some places where a few people intentionally drove vehicles in front of protestors.

"More people are taking part in the protest. Unlike in the past, not many people are likely to sit at home on a strike day. This is a major shift in people's perception of strikes," he added. He said that CITU does not back the strike.
