Kollam: Considering chances of fire accidents, charging laptops and mobile phones inside AC coaches of trains during night hours has been strictly banned.

It has been directed to keep the charging points in trains switched off from 11 pm to 5 am. Though this was already instructed, the charging points in many trains were not switched off at night.

The Southern Railway has warned the employees, including AC mechanics, who fail to keep the charging points off. The authorities decided to conduct surprise checks and take strict action against the staff if any lapses are found. A circular was issued in this regard.

Earlier, incidents of fire accidents were reported due to overcharging and heating of laptops and mobile phones that were being charged inside trains at night. The new action was initiated to avoid accidents.

Also several complaints rose that the sleeping passengers are disturbed when others use mobile phones and laptops at night. This also will be resolved after the charging points are turned off during night hours.
