Strict action will be taken if traders open shops tomorrow- Kozhikode District Collector
Kozhikode: The district administration is all set to meet any unforeseen development on Thursday as traders have decided to go ahead with shop opening. No consensus has been reached in the meeting held between Kozhikode District Collector Dr. Narasimhugari TL Reddy, and traders at the Collector’s chamber on Wednesday.
“I don’t think the traders would open shops tomorrow as they can understand the current situation. If they open, we will face them legally and strictly. The administration will have to use police force if anything goes wrong.” said the District Collector.
The Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi(traders organization) criticised the government for not paying attention to their woes.
“Our decision is to open shops across the state, so a meeting in Kozhikode would not make any sense. We want to open shops on all days till Bakrid and the rest of all we can discuss in the meeting. However, the government was not willing for it,” said Sethumadhavan, State Secretary, Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi.
VKC Mammed Koya, the President of the Vyapari Vyvasayi Samithi, termed the existing TPR calculations totally unscientific.
“We are not challenging the government but protests are a genuine attempt to inform the government our grievances. Many people and sectors have received various support from the government. However, poor traders have not received any support so far,” he said.
AK Saseendran urged the traders to discuss the issue peacefully with the government instead of challenging.
Earlier, Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, criticised the traders’ unilateral decision to open shops from Thursday. The leaders of BJP and the Congress have come out expressing solidarity with the traders.
“In the last lockdown before the election, there was moratorium and other supports from the government. When public stay puzzled and scared of not knowing what to do in the pandemic, administration should not try to threaten them. CM should not forget that this is Kerala and nobody is going to get scared of his words, said Opposition Leader VD Satheeshan on his Facebook post yesterday.
