Stray dogs will be eliminated in 3 years: K T Jaleel
Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Local Self Government K T Jaleel said on Friday that the government would take stringent measures to curb stray dog menace.
"The stray dogs will be completely eliminated within three years," he said while replying to the notice for adjournment motion tabled by P K Basheer MLA in the House, seeking to cull stray dogs.
When the Minister pointed out that there are some legal restrictions on killing dogs, the opposition noted that the law allowed killing of violent dogs without inflicting pain. The opposition also urged the government to probe the financial sources of organisations and groups which oppose administrative actions to control the menace.
The opposition also alleged that the government’s stray dog control programmes are not being effective in the state, while pointing out that four people have died in dog attack in four months.
To this, Jaleel replied that there is no politics in this issue and the matter is looked upon with much seriousness.
