Stray dogs kill around 40 ducks in Kochi, a goat in Piravom


Kochi: A pack of stray dogs killed around 40 ducks in Paravoor here on Thursday.

The birds belong to Palace Road resident Jayan. He was rearing them for eggs.

The dogs jumped over the compound wall and attacked the shelter of the ducks. Though the family members heard the sound of the attack, they were afraid to get out and rescue the birds.

Meanwhile, a goat also succumbed to a stray dog attack. This incident happened at Piravom. Two goats were injured in the attack. They belong to Manappattil Joy.

Experts have warned that an increasing number of wild animal interactions with domesticated animals, leading to the spread of viruses, including rabies, among dogs. As a result, rabies is spread from wolves, monkeys, and other wild animals to dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals. Therefore, culling dogs is not the solution to the problem. It can only lead to more problems, they say.
