State witnesses widespread violence after political killings
Thrissur/ Kasargod/ Thodupuzha: Several sporadic incidents of violence were reported across Kerala following the political killings that shook the state on the Thiruvonam day at Kasargod and Thrissur. In Azhikode, Kannur, miscreants unleashed attacks against houses and party offices while in Thodupuzha, two RSS activists sustained stab injuries. The CPM area committee office also came under attack.
On Friday, CPM activist C Narayanan from Kasargod and a BJP worker Abhilash from Vellikulangara in Thrissur were killed. To protest against the incident, CPM called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Kasargod. Vehicles kept off roads and shops were shut. The Puthukod and Kodakara panchayats too are observing a hartal.
Incidents of widespread damages were also reported in Azhikode, Kannur where as many as 15 houses were razed down and 2 CPM offices destroyed. Several memorial structures too bore the brunt of attack. In Thodupuzha, during the Onam revelry on Friday, two persons were rushed to a private hospital after they received stab injuries. Following this incident, the CPM area committee office in Thodupuzha was also targeted. CPM banners and flags were smashed in the midst of a protest march held by the BJP-RSS workers in Thodupuzha. A tense situation prevailed in the area.
Meanwhile, CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan visited the Pariyaram medical College Hospital and paid obeisance to C Narayanan. The body of BJP worker Abhilash has been handed over to his relatives after post mortem. Four persons have been taken into custody in connection with the two political murders.
