Thiruvananthapuram: While the government is struggling financially, the state is set to spend Rs 33 lakh to buy a new car for CM Pinarayi Vijayan's convoy. It is also worth reminding that the state bought new black Innova Crysta cars six months ago.

The government would buy a Carnival Limousine model car manufactured by Kia Motors, citing improvements in security features.

Earlier, State police chief Anil Kanth had recommended the need to include a new car in CM's convoy. Following this, the Home Secretary issued an order on June 24.

In January, an order was issued to buy Tata Harrier and Three Innova Crysta cars for CM's convoy. However, this order was updated and a decision was taken to buy a KIA Carnival Limousine model car in place of Harrier.

Earlier, Rs 62.46 lakh was sanctioned for the purchase of three Innova Crysta and Tata Harrier. With new changes, the total expenditure on the new order increased to Rs 88.69 lakh.

The order states that the three existing Crysta cars and Kia Carnival are for CM's pilot escort duty.
