State to set up Rubber Cooperative Society, modelled after Amul
Thiruvananthapuram: A Rubber Cooperative Society will be formed in the state based on the Amul model that revolutionised milk production. The headquarters will be established at Velloor newsprint factory’s land in Kottayam district for a budget of Rs 1050 crores.
Kerala Rubber Limited will be established with a 26 percent share for the state government in connection with setting up a hub for rubber-based industries. The cooperative society will work closely with this company.
Rs 250 crore was allotted to take up the Velloor newsprint factory, which is a Government of India enterprise. Rs 4.5 cr has been sanctioned for the initial expense of forming the company.
