State School Arts Fest begins in Kanhangad today, Jayasurya chief guest
Kanhangad (Kasaragod): The State School Arts Festival will commence here from Thursday morning. A centre of various folkarts and artists, Kasaragod is all set to welcome the young artists to the grand arts festival.
The festival will commence after Director of Public Instruction Jeevan Babu hoists the flag at the main venue at Aingoth at 8 in the morning. The festival will be officially inaugurated by Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan by 9 am. The event will be chaired by revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan.
Actor Jayasurya is the chief guest. The competition items will start from 9 am on Thursday. The events will continue till Sunday. The concluding ceremony will be inaugurated by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala.
There will be a total of 239 competition events with 90 events in high school category, 105 in higher secondary category and 19 in Sanskrit and Arabic arts festivals. The four-day event will witness events on 28 stages. The estimated expense of the event is Rs 2.25 crore.
Last year, Palakkad district was the champions. About 10,000 children will be part of the festival. Those who score ‘A’ grade in competitions will be given a cash prize of Rs 1000. About 280 participants are taking part in the event by filing appeal.
