Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Regulatory Commission has published the tariff policy on Wednesday for determining electricity rates in Kerala. The new rate will come into effect from April 2022 and is expected to witness an increase of 10 per cent.

It is mandatory to apply for KSEB rate revision before December 31. The application will be examined by the Commission and the final rate will be fixed after hearing the opinions of various sections of the consumers.

The new tariff will be valid for a period of five years from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2027. An interim review will be conducted in 2024-2025. If necessary, the board can apply for a review.

The last increase in electricity tariff was in July 2019 and the hike was about nine per cent then. As the rates will be fixed for the next five years, KSEB will claim at least a 10 percent increase.

As per the instructions of the Central Government, all consumers should switch to prepaid electricity meters by March 31, 2025.
