State may witness another bout of Dengue fever, says experts
Palakkad: The study being conducted by the state government and World Health Organization on the chances of Dengue fever coming back and its preventive measures is in its last stretch. Three years ago dengue fever had gripped the state and there were reports going around that the disease was returning.
Dengue fever became dangerous in Kerala in 2017. 21,993 people were confirmed to be infected with the disease and 165 people passed away. In 2018-19 period, around 4000 people were confirmed with the disease. Experts say that in areas that were affected by Dengue in 2017, there are chances of the disease spreading again as the immunity of the people comes down.
A lot of dengue and viral fevers were reported in the beginning of December which hints at the possibility of the disease spreading in 2020. This was confirmed by the state health department as well. Climatic changes and lapse in systematically killing mosquitoes are the reasons pointed out for this.
