State government trying to instigate communal riot, alleges Sukumaran Nair
Changanassery: Heavily coming down on the LDF government, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair alleged that it was creating division within the state on the basis of caste.
Speaking at the Vijayadasami Nair mega-conference here on Tuesday, Sukumaran Nair alleged that the CPM-led government was instigating a communal riot by pitting the lower caste against the upper caste.
“The government is causing rift in the society by creating a division between the upper and lower castes. I have heard that such divisions used to exist in our society earlier. But now, at a time when the lines between castes are disappearing from the minds of the people, the government is trying to reinvigorate such divisions,” he said.
“Through such activities, the leaders of the government are trying to cause riots. They think that the government can win votes of the lower caste by appeasing them and ignoring the upper caste people. Because, the upper caste people are fewer in numbers,” he added.
Sukumaran Nair also alleged that the government has cut down allowances given to the financially weaker section of people belonging to the upper caste. “By doing this they are trying to appease other communities that have always been at the receiving end of allowances. Funds to the tune of Rs 50 crores, distributed through Kerala State Welfare Corporation for Forward Communities has been blocked for the last two years,” he said.
Sukumaran Nair said the government has been reluctant to look into the matter despite NSS raising the issue. He also alleged that the present government is even ready hold cabinet meetings at the homes of certain community leaders and heed to their demands at the slightest of threats.
