Thiruvananthapuram: The world’s biggest COVID vaccine drive will be inaugurated on Saturday. About 3 crore people including health workers and COVID fighters in the country will be vaccinated in the first phase.
Covishield and Covaxin are the two vaccines which received approval for distribution in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the vaccine drive on Saturday at 10.30 am through video conferencing. The first dose of vaccine will be given to 100 people in each centre.
In Kerala, vaccination will take place in 133 centres. There will be 12 centres in Ernakulam, 11 centres in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode each and nine centres in the remaining districts.
Vaccination drive is realised with the cooperation of various departments in the state and international agencies like WHO, UNICEF and UNDP under the supervision of the health department.
Health minister K K Shailaja said that all preparations for COVID vaccine is progressing in the state and that everything is ready in block, district and state levels. Facilities for COVID vaccination is arranged in all centres.
