Stalling of Census work: Centre's approval needed
Thiruvananthapuram: The State government has stalled works of updation of the population register, done as part of census, as a protest against CAA and NRC. But it turns out that Central government’s approval will be needed for the same. The decision to stall the works concerning the population register was taken by the state government on Friday.
Since Saturdays are holidays for Central government offices, the order relating to the subject has not been handed over to the state census operations directorate. The officials said that the state government’s order on the subject will be conveyed to the Central government and the final action will be based on the order from the Central government.
The primary stages of census works for the year 2021 were going on. The population register and the list of houses was scheduled to be updated during April, May months of 2020 and the enumeration works on 2021, February. In connection with this, the process of appointing census officers began last month.
