Stale food seized from hotels in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: In a surprise inspection by health department, rotten food items were seized from various hotels in Thiruvananthapuram city on Thursday morning. The inspection was done by eight squads of officials at Thampanoor, Karamana, Attakulangara, Palayam and Overbridge areas.
One-week old food items were seized from some hotels. It included various chicken dishes and fried rice stored in freezers. It was also found that in some hotels chicken was used for cooking without proper cleaning.
Decayed food items were seized from noted hotels in the city named Pankaj, Chirag, Bhuhari, Bismi, Aryas and MRA. Detailed report on the inspection will be released later by corporation mayor.
Actions were taken against hotels that have untidy kitchen. Officials said that such surprise inspections will continue and such steps have increased the standard of cleanliness in hotels.
Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor V K Prasanth said that stringent action will be taken against the hotels from where stale food items were seized. In the first phase, a penalty will be slapped on the hotel. If they continue the offence, the license will be cancelled.
He also said that the details of hotels which violated rules will be published.
