Kochi: The health department officials of the corporation here on Thursday seized stale food items from the canteen of Aluva district hospital following a raid. The inspection was carried out at the canteen as part of the recent raids in various eateries in the area.

Reportedly, the raid was carried out at 5 am by corporation officials. Stale porridge and chapati were seized from the hospital canteen. In addition, old curries were also seized from Hotel Zaitoon in the city.

“The raids were conducted in the early hours to find out whether the previous day’s food was being used the next day,” said MP Simon, Health Affairs standing committee chairman, Aluva Corporation.

Meanwhile, warnings have been issued against the hotels that served stale food. They have been charged with fines, said the authorities.

A report will also be filed before the health department in this regard.
