Ernakulam: Police and food safety department officials have initiated procedures after finding two container lorries carrying stale and worm-infested fish in Maradu here on Sunday. The intervention comes in the wake of the complaint intimated by the locals after a foul smell emerged from the vehicles.
Interestingly, this comes weeks after the officials seized 500kg of stale chicken (Tsunami chicken) from Kalamassery. The development also comes at a time when the Kerala government beefed up measures to ensure food safety in the backdrop of rampant food poisoning cases in the state.
According to reports, the fish seized have been transported from Andhra Pradesh. In the two containers, fish in one container is worm-infested. The officials have decided to immediately destroy the fish seized from it. While the sample from the other container has been sent for testing. Reports added that drivers or aides in the vehicles have fled the scene.
