Kannur: The all-party peace meet convened by the district collector in connection with the murder of Muslim League member Mansoor here in Panoor, was boycotted by UDF. The UDF leaders alleged that the police didn’t take stringent action in the incident.
Even hours after the murder, the only arrest made was that of the accused who was nabbed by locals and handed over to police.
“We don’t expect justice from police. They have now arrested League activists alleging attack on CPM offices rather than arresting the murderers. The League activists were tortured in police jeep and police station. Even an SSLC student, who has to appear for exam on Thursday, was taken in custody,” UDF leaders alleged.
They also told reporters that UDF will cooperate with all the peacekeeping measures initiated here. But strong protests will be held against moves to protect the accused.
DCC President Satheesan Pacheni and League leader Abdul Khader Maulavi met reporters here and explained the UDF stance.
