Thiruvananthapuram: The driving license of IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman has been suspended for one year in connection with the accident case he is involved. The action was taken by Thiruvananthapuram RTO according to the Motor Vehicles Act. The RTO has also granted the legal permission to file an appeal within 30 days.
As Sriram’s license was not cancelled even 15 days after the incident, it had led to severe criticisms. The transport minister had sought a report from transport secretary regarding the delay in taking action.
The license was suspended after a car driven by Sriram met with an accident leading to the death of journalist K. M. Basheer. A notice was sent again to Wafa Firoz who was present with Sriram in the car at the time of the accident. The notice was sent ahead of cancelling the license for frequent violation of traffic rules.
