The government decided to reinstate Sriram after holding a discussion with the union of journalists.

Thiruvananthapuram: IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman, accused in the accident case in which journalist K M Basheer was killed, has been reinstated into service.

The government decided to reinstate Sriram after holding discussion with the union of journalists. He is appointed as the joint secretary in the Department of Health and Social Justice.

Sriram was suspended pending investigation on August 5, 2019, after being named as acccused in the case related to the accident death of journalist K M Basheer. The government had initiated disciplinary action against the IAS officer. Sriram had reportedly rejected the police finding and said he was not behind the wheels at the time of collision.
