Sreedharan Pillai holds talks with PM Modi over church dispute in Kerala
New Delhi: Mizoram governor PS Sreedharan Pillai informed that he held discussions on the church row in Kerala with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I have informed all details relating to the church dispute to the Prime Minister. The complaints raised by the two church leadership were also discussed with him. The church leadership complained of discrimination towards the Christian minorities in Kerala. At present, justice is served to them in 80:20 ratio. This matter was informed to the Prime Minister. I hope he will intervene in the issue soon. Efforts to settle the issue will be taken after Christmas,” said Sreedharan Pillai.
Responding to Sreedharan Pillai’s move, Jacobite church trustee Joseph Mar Gregorios welcomed the Prime Minister’s intervention to settle the dispute.
“We need a fair settlement. We welcome PM’s intervention to settle it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Orthodox church secretary Biju Oommen responded that they will always welcome any interventions which are bound by law.
Orthodox church respects the Supreme Court and the law. We would always support all legal efforts for an amicable solution in the church dispute, added Biju Oommen.
Sreedharan Pillai will also meet union home minister Amit Shah to discuss the church dispute.
