Thiruvananthapuram: It has come to light that a total of seven people had applied for the Vice-Chancellor post of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady, for which only one name was submitted. The Governor returned the file as only one name was recommended instead of submitting a panel of selected applicants.
The Chief Minister said that this was done as the Governor had instructed an official in the Higher Education Department that only one name is needed to be submitted.
A committee was appointed on September 9 to find a VC for Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. The committee’s term is for two months as per the rules of the university. The panel must submit names, that are to be considered for the post, to the governor within this period.
The government gave the recommendation with only one name stating that the time given for VC appointing committee had expired. This file was sent back by the governor. The Chief Minister hinted that they have initiated necessary moves to submit the panel again.
The UGC rule is that appointments to the VC post can also be made based on the recommendation by the judging committee. If the term of the committee ends, then the governor must form a VC judging committee again.
