Melpathur auditorium where the brides, grooms and their relatives were accommodated

Guruvayur: In spite of lockdown-like restrictions on Sunday due to a surge in Covid-19 cases in Kerala, there was a rush of wedding parties at Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple. The temple witnessed 154 marriages. The wedding halls were operational till 1 PM, while most marriages happened between 5 AM to 12 PM.

Temple police and Devaswom security officials had a tough time managing the rush in the wake of COVID protocol. There was special police for ensuring the security of gold adorned brides. The shrine was under the supervision of Temple CI Premanand Krishna and Security Officer Haridas.

Near the ‘Deepa Sthambam’, people were not allowed to form queues and as a result, there was not much at a rush at the sanctum. Similarly, those coming to offer prayers were not allowed to linger for longer in the walkways near the temple doors.

Melpathur auditorium was arranged for accommodating the brides, grooms and their relatives. For each wedding, only 10 members were allowed. They were sent to the wedding halls in turns. However, there was a rush at the southern side of the auditorium.

The original wedding bookings were at 182.
