Thiruvananthapuram: CBI realised during preliminary investigation that sister Abhaya’s death was not a suicide but murder. This was stated by DySP Varghese Thomas, who was the CBI’s first investigation officer in the case, to the court.
The DySP, who is a witness in the case, gave his statement to CBI Special Court judge S. Samil Kumar.
I took up the case in 1993, it was registered as an unnatural death case. I was a DySP then. Following directions from the CBI headquarters, I submitted the report before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Ernakulam.
“The case was investigated by DySP P. K. Samual under the Crime Branch SP Michel. Though Samuel had accepted evidence of the case from the RDO court, they were not handed over to me,” Varghese Thomas stated.
“When my superior officer SP Thyagarajan intervened in the case I opted for voluntary retirement,” Varghese Thomas added.
