Kochi: Passengers of Ernakulam-Alappuzha MEMU Express were left stranded at Alappuzha station after missing the so-called 'connection train' on Thursday.
The Ernakulam-Alappuzha MEMU Special (06015) was scheduled to arrive at 5.25 pm at Alappuzha. The Alappuzha-Kollam MEMU (66311) departs at 5.30 pm. Many rely on this ‘connection trains’ regularly. However, on Thursday, the Ekm-Alappuzha MEMU was delayed by half an hour and arrived at Alappuzha only at 5.55 pm. The Kollam-MEMU had left the station by then.
Earlier, a single MEMU train used to run on this route, from Ernakulam to Kollam. The number of the train, which departs from Alappuzha 15 minutes later, would be changed. However, it was later split into two trains. The rush to catch the 'connection train' in a short time is a common scene at the station. Some even used to sit in the same train unaware of the change.
Following the incident on Thursday, a group of passengers filed a complaint with the station master. However, Railways clarified that the trains are not 'connection'.
