Speech by Anto Antony’s wife violated Model Code of Conduct, says HC
Kochi: Kerala High Court prima facie observed there was violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in connection with the complaint questioning the election won by Anto Antony MP.
HC clarified that the speech made by the MP’s wife hurt religious sentiments and posted the matter for further hearing on November 13. The MCC prevents hurting religious sentiments and seeking votes using religious symbols.
The complaint was filed by Left Democratic Front (LDF) election committee convenor and CPM leader S. Ananthagopan. He alleged that Anto Antony’s wife Grace had violated MCC while campaigning inside the constituency and sought to annul the election.
Based on the prima facie observation, the HC decided to hear detailed arguments on the matter. Documents including the English translation of the speech was presented before the court. The speech upheld Christian religious values.
