Thiruvananthapuram: More preference will be given to the nursing sector when the Specified Skilled Workers (SSW) program that India and Japan signed at the beginning of the year, is implemented in Kerala. Japan is looking to recruit nearly 60,000 nurses. It is expected that a huge percentage out of this number will be from Kerala. People belonging to the engineering field are also expected to benefit from this program as they have great employment opportunities.
In Kerala, Norka Roots is in charge of the training. There has been no final decision on the matter of training. Norka Roots Resident Vice-Chairman K. Varadarajan said it is expected that detailed instructions will be issued by the central government within a month. Applicants will be invited after the language trainer from Japan arrives in India. The training will be free of cost. Once an applicant clears the eligibility test, he/she is one step closer to going to Japan. Job opportunities are also available in the housework and unskilled labour sectors. The job opportunities in the unskilled labour sectors can be availed by the ones who have returned home after losing their jobs abroad.
Since the program is a joint venture between the governments of the countries, there is no possibility of fraudulence. The employees will receive benefits and protection by the law. Since there are no middlemen, other expenses will also be less. The salary for the trainer will be given by Japan. If one passes the test, the appointment will be for 5 years. This can be renewed as it expires. The training of the first batch is expected to be over by the end of January.
