Kollam: The membership drive of Congress in the state is moving forward in a sluggish pace as it fails to meet the deadline set by the state leadership. The digital membership has not crossed 10 lakh, much lesser than 50 lakh, expected by KPCC before the March 31 deadline.

Malappuram has the most number of people who took membership via the digital platform. One lakh members were newly added to the party in Malappuram despite the high rate of membership estimated earlier. Meanwhile, only 27,451 people took digital membership in Alappuzha and 27,807 in Pathanamthitta. In Thiruvananthapuram, 61,000 people took membership.

Due to the failure in people taking digital membership, KPCC has introduced membership through offline mode. However, the process also met with delays. It is alleged that the A and I groups in Congress are refusing to step up activities to improve the membership drive. The decision to stall the organisational election for the special membership drive also affected the plans.
