Kannur: The absence of photo in special marriage certificate issued by registration offices in Kerala are troubling individuals going abroad.
Details need to be submitted online for registration. Later, the parties along with witnesses have to appear before the official concerned. Signatures will be recorded and photos (of partners) will be pasted in the register book. With that digital registration gets completed. The certificate will be printed on the stamped paper on which the marriage officer endorses his signature.
However, photos will not be imprinted or displayed on the certificate. Only names of the bride and bridegroom will be mentioned in the place where photos are to be shown. As a result, couples have to go through the prolonged verification process at embassies, say reports.
The issue is that the registration department’s software does not support photo printing. If the copy of the certificate in the marriage register book is printed using a digital image printer, then the issue can be resolved.
Some sub-registrars who are aware of the issue print and attest photos of the bride and bridegroom in the printed stamped paper. Similarly, the marriage certificate issued by the local body government will have photos of the bride and bridegroom.
