Special allocations for Kochi tourism, water transport

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister KN Balagopal elaborated a series of special projects solely dedicated for Kochi. Special fund worth Rs 180 crore was allocated for Kochi Water Metro while a separate Rs 10 crore for Kochi Roll-on Roll-off services. The State Water Transport Department will be granted a separate amount Rs 27.93 for its functioning. The budget allotted Rs 10 crore for addressing the major issue of water logging in the city.

As a prominent tourist hub of Kerala, Kochi attracted special allocation for its tourism sector too. The minister stated that 25 eco-friendly tourist hubs will be set up within the next 5 years. A special project will be launched to allure travellers to the metro city. In view of this, Rs 5 crore and Rs 12 crore were allotted for cruise industry and for champions boat league in Kochi. The minister ensured interest free loans for business and enterprises rolled out in the tourism sector.
