Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker Sreeramakrishnan is reportedly displeased over the row relating to the report of Comptroller and Auditor General on Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The actions of Finance Minister Thomas Isaac dragging the Assembly into unwanted controversies have annoyed the Speaker, it is said.
The CAG report is a confidential document to be tabled in the Assembly. It is the responsibility of Finance Minister to uphold the confidentiality. But he himself revealed the contents to media. Though first he had claimed it to be the draft report later he admitted it being the final report which led to breach of parliamentary privileges.
The Speaker can’t reject the breach of privilege notice filed by the Opposition. He is expected to send the notice to the consideration of Privileges and Ethics Committee. It has been one week since an explanation was sought from Isaac in this regard. But he has not filed any response yet and has taken a stance of directly meeting the Speaker.
Sreeramakrishnan is out of station as part of the Speakers’ Conference. He will return to Kerala only by next week. So the meeting will be further delayed by another week.
Also, the Assembly is of the opinion that Finance Minister's frequent statements are creating unwanted controversies. So, it is likely the notice will be sent to the consideration of the Privileges and Ethics Committee.
However, the final decision will be based on Isaac’s explanation. Also, it is expected that Speaker may seek legal advice over the notice against Finance Minister.
