Speaker to hold talks with Kerala Congress MLAs
Thiruvananthapuram: In view of the scuffle over chairmanship in Kerala Congress, speaker P Sreeramakrishnan informed that more time will be given to the party to elect the legislature party leader of the party. The speaker will summon a meeting of the party MLAs.
The other day, MLA Roshy Augustine has forwarded a letter to the speaker seeking more time to elect the new legislature party leader. PJ Joseph’s group has also sent a letter to the speaker regarding this.The speaker granted more time to elect the new legislature party leader on the basis of these requests. Speaker will inform the time period allotted to elect the leader.
Earlier, the speaker directed the party to elect the legislature party leader before June 9. MLA Roshy Augustine asserted that the party would not be able to summon the parliamentary party meet to elect the legislature party leader as the new chairman is not elected yet. He informed that he had sought a time period of 15 days to elect the legislature party leader.
In the discussions held on Saturday and Sunday, groups led by PJ Joseph and Jose K Mani expressed willingness to settle the dispute over chairmanship. The mediators have put forward two recommendations in the meeting. In the first recommendation, mediators asked the party members to elect Jose K Mani as chairman and PJ Joseph as legislature party leader. It was also recommended to allow PJ Joseph to continue as working chairman.
The second recommendation was to elect CF Thomas as chairman and PJ Joseph as legislature party leader. Jose K Mani will continue as vice chairman. There are chances to elect Jose K Mani as working chairman. If so, Joseph will be forced to vacate the post of working chairman.
The discussions will continue on Monday also.
