Speaker shouldn't have attended inauguration of Sandeep’s firm; I didn’t: C Divakaran
Thiruvananthapuram: CPI leader and MLA C Divakaran said that there was no need for Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan to attend the inauguration of Sandeep Nair’s workshop.
Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Divakaran clarified that had the Speaker called him before the event, he would have told him not to attend.
Sandeep is the fourth accused in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case and Divakaran represents Nedumangad where the workshop is located.
C Divakaran was supposed to be the chief guest of the inauguration event. But the CPI leader had turned down the invitation.
“It was only an inauguration of a small establishment. I didn’t think there was a need for someone, who holds a high position such as the Speaker or even the MLA representing the area, to attend such an event. None of the organisers persuaded me to attend the event. I was not even invited very seriously. So I turned down the invitation," said Divakaran.
"The Speaker did not inform me about attending the event. Personally I am very sad that such a lapse occurred to Sreeramakrishnan, who is a very good Speaker," the CPI leader added.
Divakaran clarified that he had spoken to Sreeramakrishnan after the gold smuggling case came to light and the Speaker attending the inauguration became a controversy. The CPI leader added that there was no political side to it and that he came to know about Sandeep Nair and the other accused through the media.
