Speaker sends notice to PJ Joseph, Monce Joseph for violation of whip
Thiruvananthapuram: PJ Joseph and Monce Joseph have been served Speaker’s notice based on the complaint of violating party whip during the no-confidence motion. The notice was sent on a complaint filed by Roshy Augustine MLA.
Roshy Augustine filed the complaint as the Chief Whip of Kerala Congress (M) party. PJ Joseph and Monce Joseph had voted against the government when the party decided to stay from the no-confidence motion. The complaint stated that this was a violation of the whip issued by the party and both the MLAs should be disqualified.
The speaker’s notice asked them to state the reasons as to why they should not be disqualified. Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan stated that the action is not linked to the alliance formation and that MLAs will be disqualified if action is taken on the complaint.
Both factions of Kerala Congress (M) had approached the speaker in connection with the violation of the party whip. However, Roshy Augustine filed the complaint first and Speaker proceeded with the follow-up action. The decision on the complaint filed by Joseph group will be considered later.
