Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan’s assistant private secretary, K Ayyappan, will not appear before Customs officers for interrogation on Tuesday.

Ayyappan was summoned for interrogation based on the statement given by Swapna Suresh in the Dollar smuggling case. He was asked to appear at the Customs office in Kochi at 11 am on Tuesday.

However, Ayyappan stated that he did not receive any notice in this regard and that he was informed only via phone. Customs, on the other hand, stated that Ayyappan had told them that he would appear for interrogation when contacted.

Meanwhile assistant protocol officer MS Harikrishnan has appeared before Customs for interrogation in the gold smuggling case.

Earlier, Mathrubhumi News had reported that Speaker Sreeramakrishnan would be summoned for interrogation in connection with the Dollar smuggling case. It was reported that Speaker handed over a bag to gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh and Sarith at an apartment in Thiruvananthapuram.

Swapna and Sarith had stated in court that Speaker Sreeramakrishnan had instructed them to hand over the bag to the UAE Consulate General’s office.

Based on this statement, the Customs interrogated 2 drivers at the Consulate on Monday. It is following this that Customs officials issued the notice to the Speaker's assistant private secretary.
