Speaker expresses displeasure; recording of PT Thomas' statement postponed
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Speaker has expressed his displeasure at police for not seeking prior permission to record the statements of MLAs Mukesh and Anwar Sadath at the MLA hostel here. Following the displeasure expressed by the Speaker, Police have postponed the recording of statement of Thrikkakara MLA PT Thomas in connection with the case.
Police had recorded the statements of Anwar Sadath and Mukesh at the MLA hostel at Monday noon. The Speaker came to know about his from the media.
Following this, he asked the Chief Marshal of the Assembly Secretariat to submit a report. The Speaker also asked him whether the police had sought prior permission.
When the Chief Marshal arrived at the MLA hostel to enquire, the police team were still recording Mukesh's statement.
The investigation team informed the Chief Marshal that they had not sought prior permission. When the police team reached back to record PT Thomas' statement in the afternoon, they were told to seek prior permission.
A team led by Vadakkan Paravur CI had gone to take the statements. It is learnt that the Speaker's office may convey its displeasure to the DGP.
The investigation team has informed that the statement of PT Thomas will be recorded on July 21 after completing the procedures.
