Speaker censures four MLAs who climbed atop dais and shouted slogans
Thiruvananthapuram: Four Opposition MLAs who climbed atop the Speaker’s dais and shouted slogans in the Assembly on Wednesday, were reprimanded by Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan. Roji John, Anwar Sadath, Eldhose Kunnappally and I C Balakrishnan were censured as per Rule 303 of Assembly Proceedings.
They have violated general etiquette and guidelines of the House. This is not a personal action but as their actions affected the democratic society, they are to be punished, the Speaker said.
Meanwhile, the Opposition didn’t accept the action. They boycotted the Question Hour and walked out of the House.
Everyone should have the sense of democracy to accept Speaker’s action and it has been that way ever since, Sreeramakrishnan remembered.
Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that Speaker took the action without even discussing in the meeting of leaders of the factions. It was a monotonous action.
UDF members on Thursday reached the Assembly, with pictures and placards that reminded of the ruckus created by then Opposition MLAs including Sreeramakrishnan during the Budget presentation in 2015 March.
MLAs had climbed on the dais to protest against the police action on Shafi Parambil MLA and KSU State President K M Abhijith during a protest march near the Assembly.
