New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi expelled former union minister KV Thomas from the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

A disciplinary committee headed by AK Antony recommended the removal of Thomas from all party positions and admonished him for participating in a seminar organised by CPM as part of its Party Congress held in Kannur early April.

However, Thomas was not removed from the AICC.

The decision was taken at the committee meeting held on Tuesday. The committee dismissed Thomas request for a personal hearing.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Thomas said that he will always adhere to Congress.

On April 11, Congress leader KV Thomas was issued a show-cause notice for breaking party discipline as he attended the seminar, where he praised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He was earlier denied permission to attend the meeting.

In his reply to the panel, the Congress veteran claimed that he has been the victim of 'groupism' in the Kerala unit, and has been "discriminated against" by the party leaders.
