Solar rape case: Clean chit only for Oommen Chandy; probe against others to continue

Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch has furnished clean chit in the sexual harassment case related to the solar scam only for senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy. According to the report submitted by Crime Branch to the Union Home Ministry, probe is still on against KC Venugopal, Adoor Prakash, Hibi Eden, AP Anil Kumar and AP Abdullakutty. The report also stated that the complainant has not submitted any evidence.

A key witness in the case and employee of the Team Solar company of the complainant, Mohandas has denied the claims made in the complaint. Some of the witnesses died. Though the complainant claimed that she is in possession of evidence against the leaders, she has not furnished them yet, the report further stated.

The travel documents of Adoor Prakash during the timeline of the incident has not been obtained. Probe is underway on the complaint against Abdullakutty who is said to have raped the complainant at Mascot hotel here. Hotel documents were inspected and the employees were questioned. However, the complainant failed to produce the clothes worn at the time, report further stated.

Crime Branch also said that in case of the plaint against Hibi Eden, the clothes worn by the victim during the incident were sent for forensic examination and the statements of employees present during the incident at the MLA Hostel were recorded.

The report also stated that no evidence was obtained against Venugopal and Anil Kumar. Though complainant said she would furnish digital evidence, it was not obtained. Phone records couldn’t be retrieved as the incident took place seven years back.

Lack of digital and technical evidences and the oldness of the incident are affecting the probe, the report further stated. A CBI probe into the matter will be decided after examining the report.
