Solar panels can be set up in Idukki dam; feasibility study gives green signal
Cheruthoni: It has been found in a feasibility study that electricity can be generated in Idukki dam by installing solar panels also. The study was conducted for installing solar panels in Kulamavu, Vellappara and Anchuruli areas.
Solar panels that have capacity to generate 100 MW power will be set up at each place. They will be floating on the water surface. Also the feasibility of installing solar panels in Kallarkutty, Chenkulam and Anayirankal dams also was checked. The expert team took a boat ride through the reservoir for the study.
The project is jointly implemented by KSEB and NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) Limited. The study was conducted under the leadership of NTPC senior manager Abhilash Kumar, Ashik Thomas, Satheesh Yadhav, KSEB electrical executive engineer Vincent Varghese, dam safety executive engineer V. S. Balu.
