Cherthala: It is not normal to witness a child and a parent attending the same lesson, same syllabus, and the same exam. But for Sainaba Beevi and his son Irfan, there is nothing special about it. Hailing from Kakkanad, the mother-son duo attended the plus one equivalency exam conducted at Cherthala Government Girls Higher Secondary on Monday.

Sainaba Beevi, 59, was unable to complete her education almost 4 decades ago in 1978. Irfan, 27, on the other hand, is aiming to pass the exam in which he failed 9 years ago. Eventually, they decided to write the exam together. They prepared for the exam after attending the classes led by Co-ordinator Pushpalatha at the learning center at Thirunallur School.

Although they have moved to Kakkanad as part of their house construction, they never failed to attend the classes held on every Sunday. Irfan, who runs a cosmetic company, and Sainaba, a beautician, always find time to pursue their studies. She has full support of her husband Muhammad Salih and other family members.
