Malappuram: Police seized 570 grams of gold worth Rs 35 lakhs from a Thamarassery native who arrived at Karipur Airport on Sunday evening.

The arrested individual is Nishad (30), who arrived on Air India Express from Doha. He was nabbed by the police based on secret information received by District Police Chief S Sujith Das IPS.

Following this, a police team led by S Sujith Das IPS arrested Nishad after he left the airport following custom clearance.

Initially, he refused to admit that he was smuggling the gold. However, a medical examination revealed that the gold compound was hidden in two capsules inside the body.
