SMA-afflicted Afra passes away; her pleas for younger brother's treatment evoke a sad memory

Afra and Mohammed

Kannur: Afra, a 13-year-old girl hailing from Mattool, who was suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) passed away on Monday. She breathed her last at a private hospital in Kozhikode.

Afra’s younger brother Mohammed was also afflicted by SMA. A sum of Rs 18 crore was collected for Mohammed’s treatment fund through a story published on Mathrubhumi News. Afra sought help for her brother’s treatment, following which monetary support poured in from all places for the boy’s treatment.

Afra who was undergoing treatment for SMA at a hospital in Kannur was shifted to the private hospital in Kozhikode the other day.
