Nedumangad: Portion of the skin of a snake was found in the newspaper covering a parcelled food bought from a hotel here. The skin was found in the food packet bought by Chellangode native Priya from the Shalimar hotel at Chanthamukk in Nedumangad.
The skin was found only after her daughter started to eat the porotta. Following that, Priya called the police station and the municipality.
Health officials from the municipality and the food and safety officials inspected the food and confirmed that it is the skin of a snake. The hotel was closed after inspection.
It is assumed that the skin was glued to the newspaper in which the food was covered.
The hotel has licences from the food safety department and municipality. They can reopen the hotel after cleaning the premises and getting permission from the local body.
