Six more dead bodies recovered from Kavalappara; 45 still under soil
Kozhikode: Search operations are in full swing to locate the people reported missing in heavy rains, flashfloods and landslides that wreaked havoc in Kerala.
On Monday, six dead bodies were recovered from the landslide spot at Kavalappara in Malappuram. The body of Sarojini, who died in landslide at Kottakkunnu in Malappuram was also recovered. At Puthumala in Wayanad, search is on to locate eight persons reported missing after the massive landslide there.
In Kavalappara, more bodies were recovered on Monday after earth movers and heavy machinery was pressed into service. It is learned that around 45 people from the are still missing and are reportedly under the soil and debris.
With rains staying away, search operations were intensified. A lot of people are coming to the spot searching for their loved ones. Army, National Disaster Response Force and Kerala Fire and Rescue Service personnel are leading the operations. In Kavalappara, three landslides had occurred in residential areas. Canine squad is also taking part in the search operations.
Heavy machinery was pressed into service in Puthumala also. Around 100 acres of land was affected by landslides there. It is learned that around eight persons are still missing from the area. The Army has prepared a map of the area to conduct the search.
