Malappuram: Rescue workers retrieved six more bodies from the landslide site at Kavalappara here in the district on Sunday. With this, the total number of bodies recovered from the site has reached 46.
According to official records, 13 people are reported missing from the area. However, the ground penetrating radars brought to the area to locate the mission persons failed to help rescue workers.
“The presence of water in the soil is preventing radar rays from being able to penetrate into the soil,” said Anand K Pandhey, a scientist from Hyderabad. He applauded the search operations being conducted in Kerala.
Meanwhile, the search operations at Kavalappara were stopped in the afternoon following heavy rains and strong winds. Intense search operations were progressing in the morning as the weather condition were in favour. But in the afternoon, the weather changed drastically posing a threat to the rescue workers.
The operations will resume once the conditions becomes favourable and safe.
