Attack on animal-Arrested individuals (insite)

Palakkad: Police have arrested six in connection with the brutal attack on a camel in Pallanchathanur near Mathur here.

The arrested have been identified as Coimbatore natives Manikantan, Telangana native Shyam Shinde, Madhya Pradesh native Kishore Joggi and Mathur natives Abdul Kareem, Saidu Muhammad and Shameer. Among the accused, Manikantan is the owner of the camel.

The camel was brought for a celebration and was thrashed with a stick after the event. The attack happened while the animal was made to enter a lorry meant for its transportation. The incident came to light as onlookers videographed the attack on the animal using mobile and shared it on social media.

The accused are booked under the Prevention of Cruelty Act. However, they were released on police station bail.
